A unique record of life on the Notts Wolds in the 20th century.

The life and work of the farmer and agricultural worker

" Memories for the Millennium"
Nottinghamshire Oral History Project

Portrayal of the outcome of a participating project carried out by Sandra Ford
under the auspices of

The Nottinghamshire Living History Archive
Millennium Award Scheme

About the project ....

In 1798, Robert Lowe wrote,

"The Notts Wolds are a range of high bleak country.
The soil is generally a cold clay".

Agricultural life has always been concerned with poor soil quality
making farming difficult in the Wolds villages of:

Clipston on the Wolds
Keyworth
Normanton on the Wolds
Plumtree
Stanton on the Wolds
Thorpe in the Glebe
Widmerpool
Willoughby on the Wolds
Wysall

Today's inhabitants are mainly commuters and agricultural life is in decline.
Does this pose a threat to these rural communities?
